Emerald City – How to Rock This Year’s Color Trend

It’s no contest – ruby ruled The Wizard of Oz with Dorothy’s iconic, shimmery ruby slippers and sleep inducing poppy fields. However, in the new prequel film, Oz, the Great and Powerful, emerald is the color du jour. Wicked Witch Evanora’s art deco-inspired costumes, and her more wicked sister, Theodora’s evil face makeup are shades of emerald, and of course, The Emerald City is a gorgeous display of green with its glimmering jewel toned buildings.

If you’re feeling inspired to incorporate this rich color into your wardrobe, you’re in luck. Pantone declared that the Color of the Year for 2013 is indeed, emerald. Pantone describes this color as “Lively. Radiant. Lush… A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony.”

I think this shade of green is a vibrant and mature color, countering last year’s innocent and youthful pastel mint trend. If you picked up mint accessories last season, I recommend mixing them together with new emerald pieces, to achieve a refreshing and eye pleasing monochromatic look.

Below are some of my favorite emerald items I’ve seen, and they’re perfect for spring. What do you think of this year’s color choice? Let me know in the comments!
