This week, Flushing, Queens is on everyone’s mind, but last Friday, I headed north to Yale University for the New Haven Open.
Although I missed the first match (traffic…) with Caroline Wozniacki, I caught two doubles matches – one women’s and (my first) mixed doubles match.
My favorites of the day were the color-coordinated team of Matt Brooklyn and Stephanie Wetmore, who after their red-clad triumph announced that they are dating. Aww 🙂
New Haven doesn’t draw quite the level of players that the U.S. Open does, but the tickets were affordable, and based on prior season play (or an injury), there may be a formerly high ranking player – like Wozniacki.
Other advantages include: wine that doesn’t cost $25 a glass, plentiful and less expensive fare, Handsome Dan, and most of all, no matter where you sit, you have a great view (unlike Arthur Ashe).
