Hunger Games: Effie Trinket’s Wig Candy

IMG_3659

Happy Hunger Games!

With Catching Fire‘s Quarter Quell upon us, let’s get reacquainted with the ever fashionable reaping main lady, Effie Trinket.

Effie is known for her bold clothing choices and brightly colored wigs, so a beautiful and sweet cotton candy treat with real (naturally) gold stars, and edible butterflies, seemed like a perfect tribute (ha..) to her famous style.

I came up with this idea after eating an Asian version of cotton candy (albeit in Montreal) called Dragon’s Beard – named from the hair-like strands pulled from dried honey. Cotton candy has a similar hair texture, only it resembles curly hair: Effie’s wig.

I purchased pink, peppermint flavored candy at Kmart, but, if you have a cotton candy machine, or access to a local fair, even better. The butterflies came from Etsy, and I bought the gold stars on Amazon. For the cones, I found this image, but feel free to use any picture of you like, or leave the cone unadorned.

Serve these treats at your next party, and you’ll be sure to impress your guests with discerning taste – even if they reside in the capital.

And, may the odds be ever in your flavor

Materials:

Purchase or make your own cotton candy in the color of your choice.

Using a blank sheet of paper, roll into a cone shape, and tape together.Print out the image of Effie, roll over the cone shape, and tape down.

Take the cotton candy and place into the top of the cone. Fluff the top to resemble curly hair. Sprinkle gold stars over the top, and begin adding butterflies. To secure the butterflies, use a drop of water to seal them onto the candy.

Once you’re happy with your design, enjoy immediately.
